About Me

Susan Yeates – Crochet Designer, Author and Artist

IMG_8445_EDITEDYes, it’s true – I do a lot! But underpinning everything is a love of creating things. Over the past few years it is crochet that I have been creating and it truly has me hooked (pun intended).

Finding Crochet…

I was introduced to crochet at a sewing bee that I go to with a few of my closest friends. We gather together once a month, have a bite to eat, a good gossip, and we then get on with our creative projects.

I began by practicing simple stitches in little square blocks and then working through small easy patterns and granny squares. I taught myself from books, magazines and YouTube videos and after an initial period where I was crocheting backwards (oops!), I finally got the hang of it and actually started to love it. More and more yarn was bought and more and more projects came to fruition!

I just totally fell in love with crochet and got really carried away. I would see a design on Pinterest or in a book and think “I can make this!” I would even read patterns and start to think of ways to change them, or correct them. I started a little sketchbook of project ideas and pattern elements and kept building on it month by month. Not to mention the stash of crochet magazines building up!

Amigurumi

Page_41After about a year into my crochet journey, I discovered Amigurumi patterns and started making little creatures firstly from other books and then of my own design. They began as gifts and presents for friends and family and progressed into a fully-fledged book. I have written two other craft books under the banner of my main craft website www.magenta-sky.com in the past and so it felt natural to create one for my new love of crochet. Amigurumi Animals is now available on amazon.co.uk or here on this website in my shop and includes 21 original patterns of my own design.

What is This Blog/Website About?

This blog and website is a platform to showcase my crochet adventures – projects on the go, tutorials to help you out and patterns to enjoy. I’ll make some recommendations, provide handy tips and hopefully display some of the method behind my crochet madness!

Where Does iSAYcrochet Come From?

Simple, my name is Susan Anne Yeates, therefore my initials are SAY. And I, S.A.Y crochet as well as I, say crochet! It sounds better when I say it but you get the gist!

What Else Do I Do?

As I said at the start I do a lot. I teach printmaking courses and classes via www.magenta-sky.com and also love teaching and practicing yoga www.susansworld.co.uk/yoga. Not one to sit still for long, I am a creative person, always coming up with a new project or business, so just watch this space!
